New podiums for Ekblom and Björk over the weekend increased the chances for victory in all three TTA championships. |
Last Saturday, the Touring Car Team Association Elite Racing Series visited Anderstorp for the sixth race of the season. The Volvo drivers could not do much to prevent Fredrik Larsson to win the race from pole for West Coast Racing BMW Dealer Team, but with a second, third, eight and tenth place finish respectively for Ekblom, Björk, Rustad and Dahlgren, Volvo Polestar could strengthen its grip in all three championships.Ekblom can secure the drivers’ championship both in Tierp and in Gothenburg With only two race meetings left in this years’ TTA series, there are only 58 points left to fight for in the drivers’ championship. Following the weekend, Fredrik Ekblom leads the championship with 38 points. If Ekblom does not lose more than 8 points in Tierp to the second placed driver in the series, Linus Ohlsson, he will secure the drivers’ title there and then.Together with team mate Thed Björk, Fredrik Ekblom make up one of Volvo Polestar’s two teams in the series – the Volvo Polestar Racing blue team. Together they lead the team championship with 75 points and there are only 98 points left to fight for. Their closest challenger in the team championship, Fredrik Larsson and Richard Göransson in West Coast Racing BMW Dealer Team, are more or less forced to go for the maximum 49 points in Tierp – qualify first and second (3+2 points), finish first and second (25+18 points) and set the fastest lap in the race (1 point) – to keep the championship alive. In the manufacturers’ championship, the points of the two best drivers for the same brand, regardless of team, are added together at each race meeting. Consequently, there are only 98 points left to fight for in this championship too, and Volvo leads it with 64 points ahead of BMW. Grand Slam possible, regardless, at the finale in Gothenburg on September 29 Even if Fredrik Ekblom and Volvo Polestar leaves Tierp with zero points on September 15, the team will lead all three championships ahead of the finale with a good chance to win all of them, a Grand Slam, on home turf at the Gothenburg City Race Arena on September 29: “Everyone in the team has done a fantastic job and we are heading to achieve something that is extremely difficult to do. We have reserved half of all seats at City Race Arena, over 6000 tickets, as we have a lot of customers and employees who want to be there to support the team in writing this special chapter in Volvos competition history” says Alexander Murdzevski Schedvin, Commercial Director for Motorsport at Volvo Car Corporation. |
