Ford EcoBoost Engine Technology: More with Less
It’s a simple fact: Even with advancements in technology, the majority of vehicles worldwide – millions of vehicles – will be powered by petrol.
Ford’s new EcoBoost™ petrol turbo direct-injection engines can help provide up to 20 percent better fuel economy without sacrificing power that drivers want.
EcoBoost engines will be introduced to South Africa later this year, with the launch of the 2.0 EcoBoost powertrain in the Focus ST. 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine will be made available in the EcoSport models in South Africa in 2013.

1.0 EcoBoost engine
The 1.0 EcoBoost engine, which will be offered on the new EcoSport – small enough to fit on an A4 sheet of paper – was designed at Ford’s technical centres in Dunton, UK, and Merkenich, Germany. The engine is built in Ford’s plants in Craiova, Romania, and Cologne, Germany.
The 1.0 EcoBoost engine offers:
Outstanding low-speed torque
Smooth, quiet power
Broad, flat torque curve
Outstanding fuel economy
2.0 EcoBoost engine
The advanced 2.0 EcoBoost engine has being specially developed for the new Focus ST to ensure the car gets the muscular performance – and inspirational sound – that it deserves.
It also marks the first application of the four-cylinder EcoBoost engine in a high-performance model.
The engine features specially designed intake and exhaust systems and a unique calibration to deliver the desired level of power and responsiveness. It retains robust torque delivery – a signature attribute of Ford EcoBoost designs – and a strong torque curve over a broad range.
